The Last of the Red Hot Lovers

The Last of the Red Hot Lovers by Neil Simons opened early December at the Ensemble Theatre. The Ensemble Theatre is situated right on the water at Kirribilli, it is a great theatre and is home to some fantastic shows. The Last of the Red Hot Lovers is no exception.
It is the story of Barney, Jamie Oxenbould, who tries to have an affair but each time something is just not right. He takes three different women Elaine, Bobbi and Jeanette all played by Sharon Millerchip back to his mother's apartment. All three women are very different and brilliantly portrayed by Sharon.  Barney is the owner of a fish restaurant, who is happily married or so he says; he is seeking some excitement. The first time we meet him, he is nervous and rather unimaginative. As the play progresses so does he as each time he takes a new woman to him mother's apartment he is somehow touched by them.  The dialogue is well written with lots of humour. To say this play was written in the 70's many of the issues and believes haven't changed significantly, as it certainly didn't seem to be an outdated play.
The audience were captivated throughout the play and all were smiling and praising the performance as we left.
