Events in Sydney

I am perplexed! Sydney seems to do some events extremely well and others seem to fall so short. At a time when Sydney is trying to lift the bar I think there is still some way to go.
I went out and about yesterday. My plan was to go to Art & About, the International Food Festival and the Darling Harbour Fiesta. Now, I have to admit and you could be shocked, but I have never been to any of these events! I planned my route Hyde Park first and then Darling Harbour. I walked up from Circular Quay and I was hoping that I was right that it was at Hyde Park. I thought there would be signs, but no. I got to Hyde Park and yes there were flags. I found Art & About but I was very disappointed. The amount of publicity that has been put into this event makes it sound huge. The only thing big about it is the actual size of the prints. I thought there would be art throughout the Park, like the sculptures on the walk from Bondi to Bonte. If I had traveled an hour to see this exhibition I would have been pretty upset. As for the Food Festival it wasn't on and apart from the street flags, that don't say when or where it is on, there was no other info.
So, feeling rather fed up I headed to Darling Harbour. Yippee now this is a Festival. There was a brilliant atmosphere with lots to see and take part in. There were areas to improve even here but at least this was an event and one which people were clearing enjoying.
From my experience this weekend we need to improve, I have always thought this, we don't need more events, we just need to do what we do better.
