Movie Extra Tropfest

FOUR WEEKS TO CREATE A WINNING FILM SCORE!

Are you the next John Williams, Bernard Herrmann or Jerry Goldsmith? Or perhaps you have the talent to rival the likes of Quincy Jones, Danny Elfman and Nick Cave? If you think you have what it takes to be the next big thing in film scoring enter MAX TROPSCORE before entries close on Thursday 13 January 2011.

Music is integral to the art of filmmaking.  Imagine Psycho without the screeching violins of Bernard Herrmann’s spine-tingling score.  To celebrate music in film Movie Extra Tropfest for the third year, invites experienced and amateur musicians, composers, bands and artists of all ages to compete and create the winning piece.  To enter, create an original musical score or synch for a three minute short film produced by emerging Australian film-maker David Hansen.

The winner will receive $5,000 cash, courtesy of MAX, as well as the once in a life time chance to perform or have their score performed in-front of hundreds of thousands of film fans at the glittering Movie Extra Tropfest national event on Sunday 20 February 2011.  Their score will also be included in the official 2011 Tropfest DVD, distributed by Fairfax newspapers.

Tropscore entries have their score judged by Industry heavyweights; including renowned Australian musician, Clare Bowditch; Antony Partos - internationally awarded composer responsible for Animal Kingdom’s score; Andrew Lancaster - Director of 2009 film ‘Accidents Happen’ staring Gina Davis; and Josh Fielder – from the South Australian band The Dairy Brothers, winners of Best Original Score at Movie Extra Tropfest 2010.

Last year’s winner, 21 year old Zac Cranko, beat hundreds of musicians to take out first prize.  He is now completing the UCLA Extension Film Scoring program in LA and working with composer Sheridan Tongue on the upcoming season of BBC production Silent Witness.

To be a part of MAX TROPSCORE 2011, or for more information register online at www.maxtv.com.au/tropscore and supply the completed score or synch compiled with the vision on DVD to Movie Extra Tropfest.
