Aurora Short Film Festival 2013 Call For Entries

THINK BIG WITH YOUR SHORTS
Make Something for the Aurora Short Film Festival 2013
Call For Entries: Nov 30 2012 – April 26 2013

Aurora, Australia’s leading not-for-profit subscription community channel, is calling all creatives to enter this year’s short film festival - Make Something 2013. Anyone interested in film and television is invited to submit their own digital content for a chance to receive industry acknowledgement, national exposure and sponsorship opportunities to help kick-start their film and TV careers.
Aurora CEO Phyllisse Stanton said, “With the huge success of the first Aurora Short Film Festival, we are very pleased to announce its return for 2013.
“As an independent broadcaster, we are passionate about uncovering fresh Australian talent. The short-film festival is all about showcasing tomorrow’s film and TV sensations to a national audience.”
The festival puts no stamp on the creative limits of entrants and is bound by no signature theme, topic or skill level, whether it is a short film, music clip, doco, or digital art.
Madeleine Parker, winner in 2012, commented: “Winning the Critics’ Choice Award at The Aurora Short Film Festival was a big moment for me. It gave me something to celebrate, the encouragement to continue and my film was screened at the Dendy – which has always been a dream."
Stanton notes, “Due to the diversity of entrants we had last year, we have added new categories for 2013. As well as the winner of the Open Category, there will also be awards for the Top Young Film Maker and the Top Community Organisation film.”
The shortlisted films will be screened online prior to the festival, allowing both the new and experienced filmmakers the chance to interact with the audience – as well as use the digital platform for showcasing materials.
“The audience will drive the contest online, alongside the judges who will be representing all facets of the industry.  The real test for the material will come from the online public votes – where these opinions are the key to winning the cash prizes.
“Short films are often the practice ground for feature films and can stand as a unique art form that can deliver a powerful message in a very short space of time,” she said.
Aurora will announce the top 10 finalists, along with the top five Young Film Maker entries and the top five Community Organisation films on 3rd May 2013.
The winner will be announced at the Finals Night, Tuesday 4th June 2013, at the Dendy Opera Quays.
