Established in September 2013, Foundry616 is a relatively new venue offering a selection of contemporary jazz and jazz-oriented music an impressive five nights a week.
Former Artistic Director and co-founder of the Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) Peter Rechniewski is the father of Foundry616, named to cultivate a sense of community and unity through the shared passion of jazz.
The intimate space entered through the street level down to the bowels of the building gives the Ultimo bar an authentic New York underground feeling. The warm venue seats 50 comfortably, and has the standing room to double its capacity.
Foundry616 is open from Tuesday to Saturday and attracts all kinds of patronage from the hardcore music aficionados to the first-timers; its event schedule ensures there is something to interest just about everyone. Tuesday is Groove Night and on Fridays, you’re invited to get up and rock out to the tunes of Jazz Hip Hop fusion from 11:30pm.
The venue is manned by a good number of helpful staff, and the table service is top notch. There are ten mains including pizzas and the Tasting Plate is perfect for two and a must try menu item. The simple wine list includes some fabulous drops; the Tempranillo is dangerously heavenly.
Find Foundry616 by following the magical strains of the saxophone which envelopes the leafy street. Tickets are can be pre-purchased on the website or at the door. Dinner is served from 6:30pm and there are two hour-long sets, at 8:30pm and 10pm.
