From
the 31st of August until the 9th of September, Rockdale
Musical Society with Bexley RSL, presents Nunsense;
a night of comedic entertainment with Nuns, puns and musical funs. As Dan
Goggin’s Broadway hit, the story follows a group of Nuns left to raise funds
for the burials of 52 of their sisters, who mysteriously died in unfortunate
circumstances. This leaves the Nuns no other choice, but to raise funds with a
variety show, with a side motive being “to prove that nuns are fun, perhaps a
bit riskay”. This amateur performance is guaranteed to wow audiences with such
a wide variety of talent, with just a few of the disciplines being ventriloquy,
ballet, opera and tap dancing. The singing is incredibly powerful and this,
along with great acting, really lifts the simple set and costuming, with punny
appearances from Butch Cassidy and the Nundance Kid, The Saint Andrews Sisters,
as well as Attila the Nun.
The
night is interactive and energetic with the enthusiasm of the actresses
bursting from the stage to the audience. The quick wit and punny wordplay in
the songs mean one must sport a keen ear for tricks with the tongue that are
sung, which add an extra depth of humour, (with only one
penguin joke!). This night of laughter and comedy promises to entertain and the
cozy venue provides an electric buzz that charges the atmosphere with a certain
inviting warmth and infectious excitement.Warning
to viewers, this musical may be found offensive to some viewers, especially identifying
Christians.
