Catalyst nurtures integrated dance


Join leading choreographers Sue Healey, Dean Walsh and Philip Channells to extend your skills and knowledge.

Registration for the Catalyst Dance Masterclass Series closes on August 16. Limited places remain. The inclusive masterclasses are suitable for dancers with and without physical or sensory disability, and people with mental illness or acquired brain injury.

Before enrolling we recommend you watch Catalyst 2012 - a short video illustrating the value of the collaborative development process used in the masterclass series.

This year Catalyst culminates in a showcase performance at Bangarra Dance Theatre on September 15 and is a unique opportunity for dancers and choreographers to extend their skills in integrated dance practice.

Terrain - Review

Bangarra Dance Theatre opened their new production Terrain at the Opera House last night.  Bangarra Dance Theatre is Australia's leading indigenous performing arts company.  They produce over 100 performances each year and tour all over Australia and internationally.
Terrain has been described as a hymn to country. It transports the audience to Lake Eyre. The work explores the relationship between indigenous people and the country and how the landscape becomes a second skin.
There are nine performances that flow together to make Terrain.

Bangarra announces 2012 Season

In 2012 Bangarra Dance Theatre continues its rich history of combining the
traditional cultures and contemporary theatre to create dynamic and
inspiring Australian theatrical experiences telling the stories of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
 
At the recent 2011 Deadly Awards Kathy Marika, Bangarra artist in residence
and cultural consultant, received the coveted award for Dancer of the Year.
This continues an award winning 2011 during which Bangarra received a
Helpmann Award for best regional touring production for Mathinna, three
Greenroom Awards for of earth & sky, Frances Rings received the Betty
Pounder Award for Choreography for Artefact and Belong was voted best dance
performance by the Alternative Media Group publications.
 
"Our three productions in 2012, in different ways explore the powerful
relationship of land and sky, and their significance for Indigenous people
and their cultures. A new work by Frances Rings will bring a female
perspective and energy to our theatrical story-telling. said Stephen Page,

In 2012 with over 117 performances and tours to remote and regional centres
and capital cities nationally, Bangarra¹s acclaimed performance program
continues with the creation of two new works and the existing of earth & sky
touring regionally through NSW and Western Australia. In each location
through creative workshops, Bangarra¹s performers are powerful role models
for Indigenous young people.
