I Know Leopard Bring Their Dream-Pop To Brighton Up Bar - Review
Reviewed by Heidi Lockwood
Located along vibrant Oxford street in Sydney's CBD is Brighton Up Bar; which, on Saturday night, hosted indie band's I Know Leopard Sydney stop on their current tour: Hold This Tight.
With a sound similar to, and in fact rivaling, Kings of Leon, the Adelaide born performers kicked off their thrilling. set with their debute song 'She' and ended with latest song 'Hold This Tight'. In their 45 minute set (in which the crowd pleaded for an encore), I Know Leopard proved themselves to be five extremely talented musicians, who not only have the ability to successfully cover known and loved indie classics, but also to produce and perform their own music. Their tour is an exciting chance for indie music fans to uncover and enjoy a fresh, new band before they release their first EP Illumina which undoubtedly will enhance their presence in the music industry.
While I Know Leopard's beautiful voices, musical ability and stage presence kept the intimate audience engaged, their 2 support acts certainly should not go unaccredited. In keeping with I Know Leopard's musical genre, indie bands Sons et al and Post Paint's passion for writing music and talent for performing shone in their 20 minute sets, and proved they too are worthy of their own tours. Sons et al in particular exuded raw, fresh musical talent, with their sound being reminiscent of award winning band The XX.
I Know Leopard's Sydney stop on their Australia tour was a brilliant opportunity to listen to and be entertained by some genuinely talented musicians, while chilling out with a beer in a cool, grungy venue rather than dancing around in a busy club listening to the lastest manufactured club music. Their following gigs in Melbourne on March 27th and Adelaide 28th are sure to be just as enjoyable.
