Murder on the Nile - Review

There is nothing like a bit of Agatha Christie on the stage. Yes, the scripts are a little outdated now,  I am talking about the dialogue more than the actual plot, but still it is always entertaining.  There is a bit of humour, romance and suspense, what more could you want?
Murder on the Nile is playing at the Genesian Theatre until 5 October. It is an amateur production, but as I have mentioned the script is a bit lacking. You can't help but ham up a roles a little, which makes it all the more entertaining.  The plot is the usual Agatha Christie, in the first Act anybody could be the murderer and anyone could be the one being murdered. All the characters seem to have secrets which they don't want people to know.   There is the eccentric old lady who is travelling with her niece.  Has the niece had all she can take with being bossed around? Then there is the young couple on their honeymoon, will the husband kill her for her money, will the sad ex-lover kill for revenge or will the maid be the killer?  Will William turn out to be the murderer as he reveals who he really is? Then Act II opens with the murder,  but who is the killer? Why were they killed?  Well all is revealed at the end.  You have enough people to choose from with fourteen characters and twelve actors. 
The whole play is set on a boat on the Nile. The staging gives you all you need to be able to image where you are. The Genesian Theatre is a piece of Sydney history itself. It is well worth a night out so check out Murder on the Nile at www.genesiantheatre.com.au
