The Former Glory
On Wednesday 12 October the 3rd floor of The East Village Hotel launched The Former Glory. Dylan Fairweather, the current publican is committed to returning the venue to the glories of the days gone by. For ten weeks, the 3rd floor will be transported back to the 1920's with a Sly Grog bar, replete with Chesterfields and windows boarded against prying eyes and the eavesdropping of rivals and neighbours alike.
The East Village Hotel has been trading continuously since 1918, and during the twenties played host to many of the era's icons, including Tilly Devine and Frank "The Little Gunman" Green. If you have been watching Underbelly Razor you will be well aware of these characters. Tilly's main brothel is just down the road from the Hotel.
The 1920's and 30's represented the golden age of the cocktail and so seven cocktails have been prepared to showcase some of the best aspects the crackdown on public drinking delivered. Chef Adam Spencer, whose pub food has already won an award, has drawn inspiration from the foods that would have been popular in Sydney's 20's and 30's but giving the menu a 2011 twist to suit modern day palates!
The Former Glory will be open Thursday through Monday from 5 pm till midnight. So, if you are in the area or would like to hold a 20's or 30's themed function this will be the place to go. For bookings and venue inquiries call 9331 5457.
