Tips from our Funding Opportunities Seminar

What’s on Downunder recently ran a seminar on Funding Opportunities. Unfortunately many people could not attend as they were busy trying to get everything done before the Christmas break. At the seminar we talked about the different types of funding available and how to create the best opportunity to get the funding. The seminar wrapped up with a summary of my tips –

1. Plan ahead raising funds can take longer than you anticipate
2. Build relationships with everyone; join LinkedIn
3. Find out who gives money now and build that relationship. Make them feel wanted/needed. Keep them up to date on how their money is being spent
4. Research the people you are going to approach
5. Give people a reason to give and create a great opportunity
6. Make sure you are not asking for money when nobody in the company – Board members, managers haven’t given
7. If your organization is small or you are only looking for a small amount go to small business in your local area first
8. If you are getting no where, try pairing with another small organization that either compliments what you do or is running similarly, put a package together where you will both benefit. If you need help with this ask us.
