Wolverine 3D

Wolverine - Hugh Jackman does it live up to expectations?

I have to say there is nothing unusual about the plot. It is a typical super hero tale. The hero - Wolverine has outcast himself from the world, but finds that his past catches up with him and has to save the damsel in distress, Mariko played by Tao Okamoto. It includes family feuds, which happen to be Japanese so of course the film had to include Ninjas. The grandfather who is dying wants to live for eternity, so needs Wolverine to help him achieve his goal. The villain, a female, Viper played by Svetlana Khodchenkova is dressed as a typical female villain, blonde in skin tight costumes.   Though the  film is not about mutants Viper is a mutant and Yukio played by Rila Fukushima has some powers too. Wolverine (Logan) is haunted by his past and has to soul search to find his place in the world and inner peace. The film though an action movie doesn't take itself too seriously and has a splattering of humour throughout.

As this is a 3D movie it does give it that extra edge. The scenes are very dark and cold reflecting Logan's life. Right at the end of the movie you will notice the scene is brighter reflecting his optimism for the future. The only time I had an issue with the 3d was during one of the major chases. It was extremely fast paced and made me feel a little queasy, though it could have been the amount of lollies I had consumed! There is one scene on top of a Bullet train and this is superb, it was a bit like watching a video game that had been sped up and the characters have to avoid the obstacles thrown at them to stay alive.

Hugh Jackman was just as you would expect, it was a great performance.  Rila was also very good as Logan's ally. Tao played an excellent damsel in distress who, as it turns out, could hold her own against her attackers and family.

The movie is worth going to see particularly on the big screen, out on 25 July.

What's Your Number? - Film Review

What's Your Number? Is a romantic comedy. It stars Anna Faris, Chris Evans and Ari Graynor.
It is a delightful story based on some research that Ally (Anna) reads in a magazine that in America, the average woman has 10.5 lovers and 96% of women who’ve been with 20 or more lovers can’t find a husband.  So Ally, decides, during an inebriated evening and after realising that she is up to number 19, that the numbers aren’t running in her favour.
She vows that man No. 20 will be "the one." Then she sleeps with the creep who just fired her!
So now, if her vow not to exceed the No. 20 is to mean anything, she has to revisit Nos. 1-19 to find the right one.  Her younger sister (Ari Graynor) is not helping, she is about to get married and Ally is under pressure to take a partner, one her mother approves of.
She comes to an agreement with Colin (Chris Evans) who lives across the hall, who has a different women most nights, that he can hide out with her if he uses his skills, acquired from his family, to find her ex-partners.  Of course you can all guess the end but how they get there is very amusing.  There are some great scenes i.e. strip basketball! In fact, Ally spends quite a bit of the film in her underwear.
It is one of those films that most women will enjoy at anytime of your life.  Is is a man's film? not really but there are parts that you will enjoy and if you have just slept with a women and she says you are number 20 beware!!
