Tuesday 9 November and the 2011 Sydney Festival was launched by Virginia Judge MP and Clover Moore.
The Festival grows each year, 2011 will see 109 events and 338 performances, and as in previous years the Festival is for all, so not all the events will be in the CBD. As, usual there will be free events and ANZ Tix for Next to Nix at $25 for last minute tickets which will be for sale in Martin Place. There is a new principal sponsor this year Zip - instant boiled water, so it will be interesting to see how they present themselves through the festival. Of course the NSW Government have a huge amount invested in the Festival $6.3 million to be exact.
The Festival will open on January 8 with Festival First Night, 8 hours of entertainment from 3 pm - 11 pm. 250,000 people are expected to pour into the CBD to enjoy a night of entertainment and get a glimpse of events to come in the Festival. One of the highlights of the night will be Emmylou Harris and the Red Dirt Boys who will perform in the Domain.
Other free events include Los Lobos performing at Summer Sounds in the Domain on 15 January. Sydney Symphony, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs featuring John Bell AO will perform Midsummer Shakespeare at Symphony in The Domain on January 22. Various artists will also perform at Festival Inside Out which will take place at The Crescent, Parramatta Park on January 21 and at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith on January 23.
It is going to be an interesting lineup this year, over the week's leading up we will keep you informed and in time all the events will appear on www.whatsonsydney.com
