Funding announced for the Digital Radio Project!

What does this mean for the community broadcasting sector?

The funding reinstatement announced today allows mainland capital city digital services to be maintained but most importantly it also further secures the place of community broadcasters in the digital broadcasting future.

The Federal Government's 2012 budget allocation for community digital radio resulted in a funding shortfall to support the transmission of digital services. Without the full level of funding required for transmission of the 37 community digital radio services now operating in the five mainland capital cities, services would have had to be significantly scaled back.

CBAA will continue to work hard to increase the level of support for community radio. We will be writing to you soon about how we can make sure politicians know about the long-term needs of the sector in the lead up to the Federal Election.
