On Friday, 27th July, The Loft Youth Arts & Cultural
Centre played host to the inaugural Shooting Tunes DIY Music
Video Competition Awards. The competition invited local videographers
and artists aged 13 to 25 to submit 2-5 minute music videos. To view the
finalist videos head to www.youtube.com/tvloft.
The big winner on the night was Newcastle based director Sam Cupitt,
who won the 25 & under age category and ABC Rage Programmers Choice
Award for his video for the song "Civic Station" by The Hedonists. The
video will be screened on ABC's rage program later in this year. As was
announced on the night, Sam also won a wild card entry into the second
annual Captured music video competition - CAPTURED 2.0 - and we're proud
to confirm today that Sam will indeed be taking up the challenge. Also
set to take part in the Captured competition will be the band whose
video was the runner up in Shooting Tunes, and the Peoples' Choice Award
winner, Riley & Donna (

Sam, Riley & Donna will join 5 other bands and 5 other filmmakers who will be announced on August 30th. Who is paired with who won't be revealed until October.

Similar to the Shooting Tunes competition, the
annual Captured project - which premiered as part of the Sydney Fringe
Festival in 2011 - brings together six emerging filmmakers in NSW and
the ACT and pairs them with six emerging artists from the same region.
They each create a music video or short film under 5 minutes to be voted
on by a judging panel and by the public through a 3 week campaign that
kicks off on November 16th, giving the curated pairs two months to put
together the video.
Head to http://www.capturedsydney.com/ to
view the six films which resulted from last year's competition and to
access the petition to bring Captured to your state in 2013.
